Tried-and-True Trends
A number of clear trends were discernable at the Spring/Summer 2011 ready-to-wear shows in Paris last week. For women who are sick and tired of balancing on high heels, next year will bring in more sensible shoes; from manly flats to low wedges. The recent Yves Saint Laurent exhibition at the Petit Palais visibly inspired today’s designers to present echoes of the master’s graphic Mondrian print collection, as well as his famous hippie-chic aesthetic, with long, flowing skirts and flowery prints. Skirts are still short, but there are signs of lengthening to come; designers are playing it safe with double-layered lengths. Jumpsuits and off-the-shoulder looks are still hot, and the square-cut, boxy ’70s look is making a comeback.
