Bad Boys Pasts and Present
A nostalgic whiff of the 1930s permeated the 2012-13 Paris men’s fashion shows last week. Designer Kim Jones at Louis Vuitton best showed off this trend, leading the fashion pack down memory lane. The slick smooth hair, finely tailored suits in noble materials and refined colors – black, charcoal and electric navy-blue – evoked the glamorous allure of Hollywood in its heyday, when Clark Gable and Gary Cooper were kings of the silver screen.
While classy luxury is reassuring in these turbulent times, is there nothing new under the male fashion sun? No need to despair. Creativity and irreverent excitement can be found in the collections of such designers as the man from Antwerp, Walter Van Beirendonck, and the German designer Bernhard Willhelm.
