NEW PARIS HOME FOR GIACOMETTI

The Fondation Giacometti has announced that in 2026 Paris’s Gare des Invalides will become the new home for its permanent collection of the sculptor’s work, temporary exhibitions and an art school open to all. (ARTnews)

CLASH OF POLITICAL ENEMIES

Rachida Dati, mayor of Paris’s seventh arrondissement, called on the state to take over management of the city after Mayor Anne Hidalgo raised property taxes by 50 percent, from 13.5 percent to 20.5 percent to cover costs incurred due to “climate change, the energy crisis and inflation.” (Time.News)

Mehran Karimi Nasseri, a stateless and homeless Iranian who called himself “Sir Alfred” and lived in Charles de Gaulle Airport for decades, became world-famous thanks to a Steven Spielberg film. He returned to live in the airport a few weeks ago and passed away on Saturday. (The Washington Post)

REVOLUTIONARY (OR SEXUAL?) SYMBOL FOR THE OLYMPICS

The mascot for the Paris Olympic Games in 2024 will be a Phrygian cap, redesigned to look like a cutesy red, white and blue bird wearing sneakers, although some commentators think it looks like part of the female anatomy. (The Guardian)
