A compendium of good reads about Paris and France in English.

Illuminations
The Christmas lights went on as usual on the Champs-Élysées on Sunday, but with fewer shoppers on hand since lockdown will not be eased and most stores won’t be allowed to open until this Saturday, November 28. France 24 was there.

Pricey Paris
The Economist Intelligence Unit’s Cost of Living Index claims that Paris now ties with Zurich as the most expensive city in the world because of Covid-19. Euronews reports.

Shameful eviction of migrants
Even the French Interior Minister Gérard Darmanin was shocked by the behavior of French police when evicting a migrants’ tent camp from Paris’s Place de la République on Monday, says Euronews.

French Resistance
Here’s something to watch rather than read: Colette, a Guardian documentary about a 90-year-old member of the French Resistance who is accompanied by a 17-year-old history student as she visits the German concentration camp where her brother died during World War II.

Ex-president on trial
The case against former French President Nicolas Sarkozy for corruption went to trial on Monday, but may be postponed because of the ill-health of one of his co-defendants. Read about it in the Guardian or on France 24.
