SO WHERE DID THEY EAT?
Just in case you were wondering, Barack and Michelle Obama ate at the “traditional” bistro La Fontaine de Mars in Paris’s 7th arrondissement last week. A private room for 40 people had been booked, but only the President, his wife and three friends actually ate there, overseen by a dozen or more guys with iPods. The presidential couple entered by a side door, so other diners were not aware of their presence. The French president was not on the guest list. They ordered from the menu, but the waiter wasn’t sure who to give the check to. Finally, a subordinate sorted it out.
Great advertising for the owner, who was swamped with calls for interviews and reservations. He was, he said, “Very touched.” (Thanks again to Hôtellerie & Restauration) Richard Hesse
