We didn’t get to test many restaurants last year, what with all the lockdowns and restaurant closures, but we nevertheless managed to eat at 10 great places that we can’t wait to return to once this pandemic madness is over. In the meantime, here are some future meals to dream about (or to order takeout from), in no particular order.

High-level comfort food

Chez Michel

The chef may be Japanese now in this Paris standby, but the cuisine is still perfectly executed French comfort food, served in a funky provincial-hotel-style dining room.

Classic French cuisine

Le Kigawa

Another Japanese chef/owner, Michihiro Kigawa, making French food, this time in a more refined register.

From Hong Kong and Taiwan to your heart

Panda Panda

Addictively good Chinese food for young (and not-so-young) bobos.

Best bites

Le Grand Bain

Delicious small plates to share in Paris’s “Grafitti Lane.”

Chic with charm

To

Upscale new eatery and cocktail bar worth knowing in the Canal Saint-Martin area.

Uphill climb

Frenchie Pigalle

The famed Frenchie Empire strikes again, on new turf.

Tangy, not twangy

Django

Amid SoPi’s guitar shops, small plates made with fresh, local, organic ingredients.

Feast of flavors

Aspic

A recently awarded Michelin star has not spoiled this wonderful gourmet neighborhood restaurant.

Epicurean Montmartre

Chantoiseau

This new restaurant raises the level of fine dining in the heights of Montmartre.

Sophisticated creativity

Pantagruel

Pantagruel has already received the Michelin star we predicted for it. Nothing Rabelaisian here, just a festival of exciting yet refined dishes.
