Uniqlo

Parisians ♥ Cashmere

Parisians love cashmere – and a bargain. The proof: when the first branch of Uniqlo (17, rue Scribe, 75009), a Japanese clothing brand known for its low-priced basics, many of them in cashmere, opened its doors last Thursday near the Galeries Lafayette department store in Paris, all hell broke loose as hundreds of people – male and female – who had lined up outside in hopes of being among the first inside, scrambled to find their size in cashmere sweaters priced at €39.90 and pants at €9.90. Too impatient to wait for a dressing room, they tried on clothes in the aisles and carried armloads of garments to wait in yet another line at the checkout counter. According to a report in Le Figaro, the store’s Japanese employees kept a sharp eye out for queue jumpers and firmly sent them back to their place in line.
