FRENCH CHEF BACK ON TOP
The prestigious Bocuse d’Or cooking prize, founded by chef Paul Bocuse, was awarded this year for the first time since 2007 to a French chef, Thibaut Ruggieri of Lenôtre, and his assistant, Julie Lhumeau. The silver and bronze medals went to a Danish and Japanese chef, respectively.

Mary Céleste, Paris’s only oyster bar, named after a famous ghost ship and run by the team behind the trendy taqueria and speakeasy Candelaria, offers an early-bird special: €1 per oyster between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. 1, rue Commines, 75003 Paris. Tel.: 01 23 45 67 89.

TRAVEL TIP
Cityzencab:
A new car service with online booking for trips to train stations and airports only, in a shared or private car. The price – which the company says is 50 percent lower than a normal booked taxi – is fixed in advance, so there are no surprises. We tested it recently for a trip to Orly. Although an e-mail confirming the exact pickup time did not arrive by 8 p.m. the previous evening as promised, it did come the following morning. The driver was there in advance and was helpful and courteous.
